Jesus, King of Love and Joy

Written by Sheila Hughes
We must be careful and balance
Both seriousness with our joy,
Jesus can turn frowns to smiles
And rid us of the things that annoy.

He came to us, had an attitude of joy
Even though He knew He would die,
He felt no bitterness for His service
Our redemption He unselfishly did buy.

He thought of us first, and Him last
Humility He wore, He did not boast,
Because of His sacrifice for all mankind
He holds power over all others the most.

He bore both our sins and our shame
So that we could have a better life,
He never grumbled, said it was too hard
He considered it joy to overcome strife.

We, His children, are greatly blessed
Not only in the future, but also are now,
With gratitude and great love in your heart
Worship, serve, and before our King bow.
It’s interesting to note that according to Hebrews 12:2 “Jesus, the author and perfector of faith, who for the (joy) set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” It’s amazing that He saw those of us who would benefit from His sacrifice as the (joy) set before Him. And because Jesus knew in advance that His sacrifice would not be a pleasant experience, He chose not to come to us grudgingly or bitter. Rather, He accepted His coming and dying willingly as well as unselfishly. And because He did, God highly exalted Him and gave Him a (name) above all other names and every knee would bow before Him and confess that He is Lord. (Phil. 2:9-11) Great authority was bestowed upon Him and in the future not only will those who love and worship Him bow to Him, but also the devil and his demonic forces, along with those who have died without accepting Him as Lord.

Heaven is not going to be an unhappy place. There will be a lot of singing and praising Jesus. The ones there will be happy they chose Jesus as their Savior, Lord, and King. Whenever we willingly do His will in life, He will give us joy that even the angels of heaven cannot know. We will join the holy angels in heaven and make great music together! But our joy just may outdo theirs for they will never feel the joys that our salvation brings. It gives me great joy knowing I have Jesus to help me bear my burdens here on earth. I have great love and gratitude in my heart knowing He died for me. I also truly believe Jesus has a sense of humor. Therefore, we are to share our humor with others as well. Jesus’ character is admirable, full of integrity and humility. He puts all others first and himself last. He sees the best, even in the worst of us.

I hope you will follow His example and trade your frown for a smile. Christ Jesus wants his followers to be filled with joy and laughter, not just in heaven to come, but also while here on earth. He wants us to balance our seriousness with our joy. We are blessed with so many good things, so don’t dwell on the bad, and grumble all the time. Be positive that God has your back. Every day I hope you will look to find something to laugh about, for laughter is healthy!
